Message from CEO
Happy New Year 2018.
Coming on board on 1st January 2018 as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ), I am upbeat and excited to be here, especially on the prospects of the company.
Last year, cargo movement in PKFZ breached the 200,000 TEUs mark for the very first time. A record 205,106 TEUs was registered and we are pleased to be able to contribute towards the overall growth of Port Klang, bearing in mind that when we first started operations in 2007 only 1,581 TEUs were contributed. The year 2017 had also been a busy year for PKFZ and our clients. The Open Land saw many development work in progress with new facilities under construction. The take up rates at the Light Industrial Units and other facilities have also improved significantly.
The year ahead will bring its own challenges but I’m sure working together with our tenants, clients and stakeholders as a team would bring about the desired outcome that we all aim for – to position, strengthen and place PKFZ as a major redistribution hub in this region and the world over.
I take this opportunity to thank my predecessor Dato’ Chia Kon Leong, who helmed PKFZ for over a decade for his dedication and hard work. I also would like to thank our tenants and clients, many who have stayed with us through thick and thin. Not forgetting too, the Port Klang Authority, PKFZ Board for their guidance and direction, and PKFZ staff for their continued dedication.
Through teamwork, relentless effort and solid execution, we can achieve our goals as the preferred redistribution and value-added processing hub, especially under the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as to transform PKFZ to its next stage of progress.
Wishing everyone a happy, healthy and successful 2018!
Dato’ Ong Chong Yi
